Unlike with regular scalpel “gum surgery” there is no cutting of the gum tissues or sewing with stitches, so the whole experience is virtually pain free. Laser technology is a way to regenerate healthy gums and remove disease areas in a virtually painless way. BIOLASE is the world’s leading innovator in dental lasers. This method also encourages healthy gum to regenerate and attach to the teeth. REPAIR Perio is the first definitive step-by-step protocol for using an Er,Cr:YSGG laser to assist in the management of early, moderate, and severe chronic periodontitis.
We may use WaterLase dentistry laser to treat your gums or other soft tissue in your mouth to:
IMPROVE YOUR SMILE: We may suggest contouring or shaping your gums using WaterLase dentistry to improve the appearance of your smile – safely removing excess gum tissue that may give you a “gummy” smile, or make your front teeth appear irregular in size or shape.
REMOVE ORAL GROWTHS: Quickly and safely remove growths or excess tissue in your mouth including gum tissue over an unerupted tooth, small “tags” called papilla, and growths called fibromas.
FIX A “TONGUE TIE” OR PREVENT GUM RECESSION: Connections that restrict the movement of your tongue or cause your gums to recede can be “released” with less post-operative pain.
TREAT PERIODONTAL DISEASE: We recommend using WaterLase dentistry to remove debris and bacteria between your teeth and gums that can cause bleeding gums, gum recession, and even loss of teeth. For moderate to severe gum disease, ask your doctor about REPAIR minimally invasive periodontal treatment.

Comfort: With laser treatment, there is reduced or no bleeding, minimized swelling, no charring, and no drill noise or vibration. The stress and anxiety often associated with dental work is therefore eliminated when you experience quick, effective, and essentially pain-free laser procedures. Also, postoperative sensitivity is greatly limited by laser dentistry, and recovery time is much quicker than with traditional methods. In fact, due to the less-invasive nature of the laser technique, the mouth begins to heal immediately after work is completed!
Reduced Risk of Infection: The laser’s high-energy light beam acts as a sterilizer on the area it is working, thereby reducing the risk of bacterial infections and relapses.
Anesthesia Limited or Eliminated: Because laser dentistry is virtually painless, no longer will you suffer from fear of injections and numbness. Often, only a light anesthetic spray is required. Laser treatment eliminates the complications and costs associated with anesthesia.

REPAIR Perio is the first definitive step-by-step protocol for using an Er,Cr:YSGG laser to assist in the management of early, moderate, and severe chronic periodontitis. It consists of three phases: pre-surgical, surgical, and post-surgical.
PHASE I: PRE-SURGICAL PHASE
All patients should have a comprehensive periodontal examination/evaluation including data collection of periodontal charting and radiographs, medical and dental history, and risk assessment. Phase I treatment is implemented for the removal of supra- and subgingival biofilm and calculus through scaling and root planing (S/RP) and the initiation and evaluation of oral hygiene compliance. Occlusal assessment and treatment may be warranted in this phase. Splinting of teeth may be an option.
PHASE II: SURGICAL PHASE
Phase II surgical treatment plan is developed based on the re-evaluation of periodontal inflammation and oral hygiene compliance. The surgical plan can be for a single tooth or multiple teeth sites, a quadrant, or half-mouth depending on a number of indicated sites.
While we still offer traditional gum surgery because it is safe and effective, Dr. Noroozi also provides you with an alternative, laser gum surgery. Laser gum surgery treats your gum disease without incisions or sutures, removing bacteria with less discomfort and downtime.
